About Open Travel Guide

We cover destinations across the world at three levels: the country, the region, and the individual place — a beach, a hike, a hotel, a meal. Each guide is built from primary and official sources and structured so you can skim for the answer or read straight through.

We publish what we think is honestly useful and skip the rest. If a destination doesn't have a guide yet, it's because we haven't gotten to it. We're working through.

Open Travel Guide is funded by two things: (1) downloadable PDF travel guides sold through our shop, and (2) affiliate commissions on a small number of carefully-chosen travel-services links (hotels, tours). When a link is affiliate, it's marked. Commissions never influence which destinations we cover or what we recommend within a destination.

Every guide carries a “last updated” date, and that date is the date the page itself last changed — not a claim that someone re-checked every fact on it that day. Guides are revised when we return to a destination to extend or correct it. If you spot something out of date or wrong, please email us; corrections are made directly to the page.

We don't accept payment for inclusion, and no business can buy a place in a guide or a better position within one. Affiliate links are marked where they appear, and commission never determines what we cover or what we recommend.

Open Travel Guide is published by Open Travel Guide, a registered trading name, and the organisation — not any individual contributor — is accountable for everything on the site. Guides are published under the organisation’s name because that is what stands behind them.

Our guides are compiled from primary and official sources: national and regional tourist boards, transport operators’ own timetables and fare tables, site and museum operators’ published opening hours and admission prices, and official government travel information. Where a figure comes from an operator, the operator is the authority for it. We use automated tooling in the drafting and assembly of these guides, and we say so plainly in our editorial policy rather than leaving it to be inferred.

The limits are worth stating too. Prices, opening hours and transport details change, and a page is only as current as its last update; always confirm time-critical details with the operator before you travel. If you find something wrong, tell us — corrections are the fastest way this site gets better, and we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing.
