How our guides are created

Open Travel Guide is published by an organisation, not under individual bylines. Every guide is published under the organisation's name, and the organisation is accountable for what it says.

We use AI tooling to research, draft and assemble these guides. We state that plainly rather than leaving it to be inferred. Automation is what lets a small operation cover destinations at this breadth; it is also why the standards below, and the corrections route at the bottom of this page, matter more here than they would on a site publishing a handful of articles a month.

Guides are compiled from primary and official sources: national and regional tourist boards, transport operators' own timetables and fare tables, site and museum operators' published opening hours and admission prices, and official government travel information. Where a figure comes from an operator, that operator is the authority for it, and we would rather say less than assert something we cannot trace.

What the dates mean

Every guide shows a "last updated" date. That is the date the page itself last changed. It is not a claim that every fact on the page was re-checked that day, and we do not describe it as a verification date, because we do not run a per-fact re-verification cycle.

Prices, opening hours and transport routes change frequently. Treat anything time-critical as a starting point and confirm it with the operator before you travel.

Our editorial standards

• Traceable facts. Prices, opening hours, and transport details must trace to a checkable source. When a fact cannot be established, the guide says less, plainly, rather than more, vaguely.
• No fabricated authority. We do not publish invented biographies, invented credentials, or stock or AI-generated portrait photography presented as staff. We previously published guides under nine pen names; those profiles have been retired and the organisation now signs its own work.
• No claims we cannot support. We do not say a page was reviewed by a named person, verified on a date, or reported from the ground, because none of those would be true.
• Affiliate transparency. Some guides contain affiliate links, marked with sponsored link attributes and disclosed in our disclaimer. Commission never determines what we cover or what we recommend, and no business can buy a place in a guide.
