When to hike

Seasonal conditions in Albania.

Spring
May-June is excellent with wildflowers in full bloom, waterfalls at peak flow, and milder temperatures. Snow may still close Valbona Pass until late May. Perfect for lower elevation trails.
Summer
July-August is best for the Valbona-Theth route and Albanian Alps. Start early (6-7am) to avoid afternoon heat on exposed trails. Carry extra water as some springs dry up.
Fall
September-October offers beautiful foliage, cooler temperatures, and fewer hikers. The Valbona Valley turns spectacular gold and red. Most trails remain accessible until October.
Winter
November-April sees most alpine trails closed due to snow. Llogara National Park and coastal area trails remain accessible. The Albanian Alps are inaccessible without specialized mountaineering skills.
