La Seu d'Urgell, Spain
La Seu d'Urgell is the historic capital of the Alt Urgell comarca, just across the Spanish border, and it is the closest place to Andorra with a genuine old town and a cathedral rather than ski infrastructure and duty-free malls. Its Romanesque cathedral and the whitewater course built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics give it two very different reasons to visit: architecture in the morning, an active afternoon by the Segre river.

Ordino and the Vall de Sorteny Natural Park
Ordino is Andorra's quietest and best-preserved parish town, built on a hillside above the main valley and largely spared the dense construction found around Andorra la Vella. Above it, the Vall de Sorteny Natural Park is a high alpine valley reached by a mountain road, offering marked walking trails through meadows and pine forest well above the resort towns below.

Canillo and the Roc del Quer viewpoint
Canillo is the highest and largest parish in Andorra by area, stretching from the valley floor up toward the Grandvalira ski slopes, and it's where the Roc del Quer viewpoint sits on a rock outcrop with a sculpture of a seated figure looking out over the mountains. It's a short, easy stop rather than a full day out, best combined with the parish's other sights or a walk nearby.

Envalira Pass and Pas de la Casa
The Port d'Envalira is the highest paved mountain pass in the Pyrenees, carrying the main road between Andorra and France over open, treeless high country. On the far side, Pas de la Casa is a border town built almost entirely around skiing and duty-free shopping, with a character closer to a French mountain resort than to the rest of Andorra.

Sant Julia de Loria and Naturlandia
Sant Julia de Loria is Andorra's southernmost parish, the first town reached when entering from Spain, and it's home to Naturlandia, an outdoor adventure park built into the forest above the town. The park's main draw is the Tobotronc, a mountain luge-style toboggan run through the trees, alongside other outdoor activities aimed squarely at families.
