Azerbaijan has a predominantly semi-arid continental climate in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, with hot dry summers (35-40°C) and mild winters rarely seeing frost. The Greater Caucasus mountains in the north have an alpine climate with significant snowfall and skiing December-March. Spring
Months: Mar-May
Mild and pleasant with wildflowers blooming across the Caucasus and pomegranate trees blossoming in Baku gardens. The best season for hiking lower mountain trails.
Summer

Hot and dry in Baku (35-40°C) with intense sun. Beach season peaks July-August on the Caspian. Mountain regions much cooler and ideal for hiking and outdoor activities.

Mild in Baku (5-10°C, rarely freezing) with occasional rain. Mountains receive heavy snowfall making Shahdag ski resort fully operational. Baku's Christmas and New Year celebrations are elaborate.
