Burkina Faso, meaning 'Land of Honest People,' is a West African nation rich in cultural heritage and traditional arts. From the vibrant capital Ouagadougou to the historic city of Bobo-Dioulasso, visitors can experience authentic West African culture, stunning natural landscapes including waterfalls and wildlife reserves, and warm hospitality.
Burkina Faso has a tropical savanna climate with two distinct seasons — a long dry season (October to May) and a shorter rainy season (June to September). Temperatures are consistently hot year-round, ranging from a comfortable 25°C in December to a brutal 42°C in April. The Harmattan wind blows dusty, dry air south from the Sahara between December and February, reducing visibility and causing skin and respiratory dryness. The coolest and most pleasant period for visiting is November to February.

The seasons
What to expect in each part of the year.
Spring
Months: Mar-May
The hottest and most difficult season, with temperatures reaching 38-42°C before the rains arrive. April and May are the peak of the hot season when the heat is oppressive and travel is challenging. The first rains of May bring some relief.
Summer
Months: Jun-Sep
The rainy season brings relief from the heat with temperatures dropping to 28-35°C and dramatic afternoon storms. Waterfalls are at their most spectacular in July-September. Roads to rural areas can become impassable.
Fall
Months: Oct-Nov
The transition from rains to dry season — vegetation is lushest, temperatures are moderate (27-34°C), wildlife is active, and roads have dried but waterfalls still flow. One of the best periods to visit Burkina Faso.
Winter
Months: Dec-Feb
The cool dry season is the most comfortable time to visit, with temperatures of 20-32°C and pleasant evenings. The Harmattan dust haze can reduce visibility for photography but wildlife concentrates around water sources in dry season.
