Cabo Verde is a stunning archipelago of ten volcanic islands off the coast of West Africa, offering pristine beaches, vibrant Creole culture, and year-round sunshine. From the windswept dunes of Boa Vista to the lush mountains of Santo Antão, this island nation combines African and Portuguese influences with world-class water sports and authentic island hospitality.
Cabo Verde's nightlife ranges from the laid-back tourist bars of Santa Maria on Sal Island to the culturally rich music venues of Mindelo, which is widely considered the cultural capital of Cabo Verde and West Africa's best small city for live music.
Lively and distinctly Cabo Verdean. Mindelo's Rua de Lisboa bar strip is the most atmospheric nightlife area in the islands, with live morna and funaná music most evenings. Santa Maria caters to international tourists with beach bars and clubs, while Praia has a more local urban scene.

Nightlife tips
Stay safe and have fun.
Mindelo is far safer for late-night walking than Praia - stick to the Rua de Lisboa strip and harbor front
In Praia, take a taxi rather than walking at night - the Plateau is reasonably safe but lower city neighborhoods are not
Live music in Cabo Verde starts late - arriving at a Mindelo music bar at 9pm may mean you're first in and performers won't start until 10:30pm
Uber does not operate in Cabo Verde - agree a price with a taxi driver before setting out at night, or use hotel reception to arrange a trusted driver
The best Cabo Verdean live music experiences cost little to nothing - Café Royal and Café Musica in Mindelo charge nothing extra for the music
Grogue is strong (40-50% ABV) and dehydration in the heat makes its effects more powerful - alternate with water when drinking
