Kribi Beach & Chutes de la Lobé
Kribi is a beach town on Cameroon's Atlantic coast where the Chutes de la Lobé fall directly into the sea, one of the few waterfalls anywhere that meets the ocean without a river mouth in between. The town itself is a working fishing port, so the sand is lined with pirogues and grill stalls rather than resorts. A day trip pairs the falls with beach time and a seafood lunch cooked a few meters from where it was landed.

Foumban & the Bamoun Kingdom
Foumban, in Cameroon's West Region, was the capital of the Bamoun Kingdom and still functions as one — the sultan's palace complex is a working royal residence, not a reconstruction. Mount Cameroon base hike (Buea)
Mount Cameroon, at just over 4,000 meters, is the highest peak in West Africa and one of the continent's few currently active volcanoes. Buea, the town at its base, was the colonial capital of German Kamerun and is still the starting point for anyone climbing the mountain. A full summit takes two to four days, so a day trip from Yaoundé is really a visit to Buea and the mountain's lower slopes rather than the peak itself.

Mefou Primate Sanctuary
Mefou Primate Sanctuary, run by the conservation organization Ape Action Africa, is a rescue and rehabilitation center rather than a zoo — most of its residents are gorillas and chimpanzees confiscated from the illegal bushmeat and pet trade. Its large forested enclosures let you see primates from within a few meters along fence-line walking trails, and its closeness to Yaoundé makes it an easy half-day addition to a longer day.

Leave Yaoundé by 6-6:30 AM for Kribi — the 3.5-hour drive means a 10 AM beach arrival, allowing maximum beach time before returning at dusk
The Yaoundé-Douala road (N1) is the best-maintained highway in Cameroon but still has sections requiring care — avoid driving it after dark
Book intercity buses the evening before peak travel days (Friday departures and Sunday returns are busiest) to ensure preferred departure times
Moto-taxi the final stretch to the Lobé Falls from Kribi town — they know the back road and it's only 8 km south
