Shekou Sea World

Shekou Sea World is a waterfront entertainment plaza in Nanshan District's Shekou area, built around the Minghua, a decommissioned French ocean liner permanently docked and converted into a hotel and landmark that gives the district its name. The plaza surrounding the ship is lined with restaurants, bars, and cafes covering a wide range of international and Chinese cuisines, making it one of Shenzhen's more popular nightlife and dining destinations, particularly among the expatriate community given Shekou's history as an international business district. Visitors typically stroll the plaza, photograph the retired liner, and settle into one of the many waterfront restaurants or rooftop bars for the evening. A visit runs two to three hours for a walk and a meal, though many stay longer for drinks and live music at the bars that keep the plaza active well past midnight. Evening is by far the best time to visit, when the restaurants fill up, string lighting and ship illumination create a lively atmosphere, and the waterfront breeze offers relief from daytime heat. Weekend evenings are the busiest, especially around the ship itself and the main dining terraces; weekday evenings offer a calmer, still-lively alternative. The plaza is directly served by Sea World metro station on Line 2, making it an easy destination for an evening out from central Shenzhen.
