Bay Street Grills refers to the informal collection of outdoor charcoal grill vendors that set up along Roseau's Bayfront, Dominica's waterfront promenade facing the Caribbean Sea. This is not a single restaurant but a strip of individual operators, each running a grill built from repurposed oil drums or welded steel, who work through the midday and afternoon hours serving the most affordable cooked food in the capital. The experience is quintessentially Dominican street food: fresh fish — kingfish, mahi-mahi, red snapper — bought from the adjacent fish market that morning, marinated briefly in island seasonings, and grilled over live charcoal to order. Each plate arrives with boiled ground provisions — dasheen, green banana, plantain — and occasionally a small portion of rice. BBQ Chicken, quartered and rubbed with local seasoning before being grilled, is the alternative for those who prefer poultry. Fried plantain, offered as a side by most vendors, adds a sweet contrast. Prices are expressed in East Caribbean dollars and represent among the best value anywhere in Dominica for a full grilled meal. The setting is the Bayfront itself: the open-air harbour esplanade with benches and low walls, cargo vessels in the distance, and the smell of charcoal and fish carrying across the waterfront. Operations are weather-dependent and slow in heavy rain. The cluster of vendors is at its busiest on weekdays between noon and 3 PM. There is no menu, no ordering process beyond pointing at the grill, and no seating beyond the public benches of the Bayfront.
