Syme Zee's Restaurant on Bay Street in Portsmouth, Dominica's second city and the main gateway to the northern part of the island, has served the Portsmouth community and passing travellers for years as a reliable, unpretentious Caribbean dining room. The menu anchors on Caribbean staples executed without fuss: Conch Roti is the most celebrated dish, wrapping seasoned stewed conch in a flaky roti skin alongside curried potato and a vinegary pepper sauce; the Grilled Fish Platter arrives with a whole or filleted fresh fish, the daily catch sourced from Portsmouth fishermen, alongside rice and provisions; and the Chicken Curry achieves the slow-cooked richness that takes most of a day to develop properly. Portions are generous. Prices are among the lowest of any sit-down restaurant in Portsmouth, making Syme Zee's consistently recommended on a tight budget. The view from the waterfront-facing tables takes in Prince Rupert Bay and, on clear days, the northern tip of the island. The Sunday dinner service (4–9 PM) draws a particularly strong local crowd.
