Day trip tips
Make the most of your excursions.
Book the morning ferry to Bolama or Bubaque Island the day before departure - they fill quickly and missing the morning sailing means losing the whole day
Start Cacheu and Cantanhez trips by 7AM at the latest to have enough time at the destination
For Bijagos island day trips, consider staying overnight - the journey time by ferry (4-6 hours each way) makes a true day trip exhausting
Hire a local guide for all national park and historical site visits - this is both mandatory (Cantanhez) and hugely enhances the experience everywhere
