When to hike
Seasonal conditions in Iran.
- Spring
- March-May is ideal for lower and mid-altitude trails. Wildflowers bloom across mountain meadows, streams run full, and temperatures are pleasant. Damavand approaches open from May.
- Summer
- June-September is peak season for high-altitude routes including Damavand. Lower trails can be hot so start before 7 AM. Alborz highlands offer cool refuge from Tehran summer heat.
- Fall
- September-November offers excellent conditions with clear skies, cooler temperatures, and autumn foliage in Hyrcanian forests and Alborz hillsides. Ideal for almost all routes.
- Winter
- Most higher trails snow-covered and unsafe without mountaineering equipment. Tehran's Darband remains open for winter walks. Tochal ski area operates December-April.
