Within Friuli Venezia Giulia, a car unlocks the Collio wine country, Carnia mountains, Carso plateau villages, and smaller historic towns that public transport cannot reach efficiently. Train travel is excellent for Trieste–Udine–Venice corridor and the Udine–Cividale branch. For Aquileia, a car or bus-plus-walk combination works. For Tarvisio skiing, the train is comfortable and scenic.
