Hotel Villa Athena

Hotel Villa Athena is the only hotel located within the Valley of the Temples archaeological park in Agrigento, Sicily — a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing one of the best-preserved collections of ancient Greek temples outside of Greece itself. The property's position inside the protected zone grants guests access to the temples after day-trippers have departed, and views of the illuminated monuments after dark from the hotel's own grounds.

The hotel occupies an 18th-century Sicilian villa surrounded by olive trees, almond groves, and Mediterranean gardens. Architecture and décor preserve the villa's period character with terracotta floors, wrought-iron furnishings, and whitewashed walls typical of the Agrigento vernacular. Room categories range from standard and superior to deluxe configurations, with premium rooms offering direct sightline views of the Temple of Concordia — dated to around 440 BCE and considered the best-preserved Doric temple in existence — arguably the most remarkable in-room view of any hotel in Sicily.

An outdoor swimming pool set among the gardens provides essential respite during Sicily's long, hot summers, when temperatures in the province regularly exceed 35°C. The on-site restaurant serves Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine emphasizing locally sourced ingredients: Agrigento province produces exceptional almonds, pistachios, citrus, and olive oil, all of which feature prominently on the menu. The hotel sits approximately 10–15 minutes by car from Agrigento's historic upper town, where the Museo Archeologico Regionale holds the finest collection of artifacts from the temples' excavations, including the celebrated Ephebe of Agrigento sculpture. A hire car is strongly recommended; the archaeological zone and surrounding province have limited public transport connections. The nearest railway station connects to Palermo in roughly two hours.
