Kagawa Prefecture occupies the northeastern tip of Shikoku island, separated from the Chugoku region by the tranquil Seto Inland Sea. Kagawa has a warm temperate oceanic climate and is Japan's sunniest prefecture — receiving the lowest average annual rainfall in the country due to the rain shadow created by the surrounding mountains of Shikoku and Chugoku. Summers are hot and humid; winters are mild and dry compared to the rest of Shikoku. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable travel conditions.
