Mie Prefecture occupies the eastern tip of the Kii Peninsula along Japan's Pacific coast, sheltering Japan's most sacred Shinto shrine complex, a UNESCO-listed pilgrimage network, pristine pearl-farming bays, and a coastline famous for Ise lobster and Matsusaka wagyu beef.
Mie Prefecture is accessible from Nagoya via Kintetsu limited express (about 70 min to Ise) and from Osaka/Kyoto via Kintetsu (about 90 min to Ise). JR Sangu and JR Kisei lines also serve the prefecture. Within Mie, Kintetsu is the fastest option between Nagoya/Osaka and the Ise-Shima area. Rental cars are strongly recommended for exploring the Kumano Coast, inland Iga, and rural areas.
