Trakai
Trakai Island Castle sits on an island in Lake Galvė, reached by wooden footbridges, and is the most visited stand-alone historic site outside Vilnius. Kaunas
Kaunas was interwar Lithuania's temporary capital, and that period left it with a large concentration of Art Deco and modernist buildings along Laisvės alėja. The Old Town, at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, is smaller and more compact than Vilnius's. It works as a full day trip because the sights are spread across three distinct areas: the Old Town, the Laisvės alėja corridor, and the Ninth Fort on the outskirts.

Kernave Archaeological Site
Kernavė is a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Neris river made up of five earthen hillforts that formed a fortified settlement and, briefly, one of the early capitals associated with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania before it was burned by the Teutonic Order in the 14th century. No medieval buildings survive above ground - the value is in the mounds and the river valley they overlook, plus the site museum that explains what was excavated there.

Druskininkai Spa Town
Druskininkai is Lithuania's oldest spa town, built around mineral-water treatments on the Nemunas river near the Belarusian border, and today pairs that spa tradition with a large modern aquapark and, a short drive away, Grūtas Park's collection of relocated Soviet-era statues. It's a longer trip than the others here, so it suits a day built around one main activity rather than trying to combine several.

Palanga Coastal Resort
