Getting Around Luxembourg 2026

How Luxembourg moves: the transit systems, intercity routes, and fares that shape your trip.

Luxembourg is a captivating blend of medieval fortresses, modern European institutions, and stunning natural landscapes. This small but mighty Grand Duchy offers UNESCO World Heritage sites, world-class dining with 11 Michelin-starred restaurants, and free public transportation throughout the entire country. From the dramatic Bock Casemates to the fairy-tale Vianden Castle, Luxembourg seamlessly combines rich history with contemporary sophistication.

Public
World-class and entirely free since March 2020. Buses, trams, and trains cover the whole country with excellent frequency. Luxembourg City tram serves airport, city center, and Kirchberg. Cannot be beaten for value.
Taxi
Available via Webtaxi app or Colux (+352 48 22 33). Metered and regulated. Most drivers speak English. Good availability in city center but can be slow during peak hours.
Rental
Useful for exploring rural areas, castles, and the Ardennes north. Highways are toll-free. Parking in city center is expensive and limited. Not needed within Luxembourg City itself.
Walking
Luxembourg City old town is very walkable with well-maintained streets, clear signage, and scenic routes. The Corniche walk is exceptional. Hilly terrain requires reasonable fitness in places.
