Nestled between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova is Eastern Europe's best-kept secret, renowned for its expansive underground wine cellars, medieval monasteries, and warm hospitality. This landlocked nation offers authentic cultural experiences, pristine countryside, and some of the world's finest wines at remarkably affordable prices.
Moldova has a temperate continental climate with warm summers, cold winters, and moderate rainfall spread throughout the year. The country's central European position gives it four distinct seasons: mild springs with wildflowers and blossoms (April-May), hot dry summers ideal for the grape harvest (June-September), beautiful golden autumns with wine festivals (October), and cold winters with occasional snow (December-February). Average annual temperature is around 10°C (50°F), with July averaging 22°C (72°F) and January around -3°C (27°F).

The seasons
What to expect in each part of the year.
Spring
Months: March-May
Temperatures rise from 5-10°C in March to 15-20°C in May. Wildflowers bloom across the countryside and orchards blossom beautifully. Light rain is common but days are increasingly pleasant. Excellent time for hiking and countryside visits.
Summer
Months: June-August
Hot and sunny with temperatures regularly reaching 28-35°C. Dry conditions make this ideal weather for outdoor sightseeing, though the heat can be intense midday. Wine grapes ripen throughout summer leading to the September harvest.
Fall
Months: September-November
One of the best seasons — warm in September (20-25°C), cooling to 10-15°C in October with spectacular foliage colors. The grape harvest and National Wine Day (first October weekend) make autumn Moldova's most festive season.
Winter
Months: December-February
Cold with temperatures often below freezing (−5 to 2°C). Snowfall is possible, particularly December-January. Christmas markets in Chisinau center add charm to the cold months. Far fewer tourists mean better prices and more authentic experiences.
