When to hike
Seasonal conditions in Niger.
- October November
- Best conditions. Temperature drops from summer peak, clear skies, dry underfoot. Ideal for all trails including Aïr Mountains.
- December February
- Peak season. Pleasantly cool (15-25°C), excellent visibility. Best for wildlife in W National Park. Harmattan dust haze possible January-February.
- March
- Still good but warming quickly. Temperatures reach 35°C+ by midday. Start all hikes before 7 AM.
- April September
- Avoid hiking. Extreme heat (40-50°C in desert regions), severe dust storms (haboobs), and Sahelian rains June-September make hiking dangerous and unpleasant.
