- April-June offers wildflowers, waterfalls at full flow, and mild temperatures. Trails may be muddy in early spring. Perfect for lower elevation hikes.
- Summer
- July-August best for high mountain trails to Pelister and Galicica. Lower trails hot midday - start before 8AM. Bring extra water.
- Fall
- September-October offers cool temperatures, autumn colors, and reduced crowds. Arguably the best hiking season in North Macedonia.
- Winter
- December-March - lower trails accessible but icy conditions possible. High mountain trails (Pelister, Galicica) require snowshoes or crampons. Mavrovo becomes ski resort.
