Day trip tips
Make the most of your excursions.
Start all day trips early — ideally by 7:00–8:00 AM to avoid afternoon rain showers which are common year-round in the interior and south
Book plantation restaurant lunches (especially Roça São João) 24–48 hours in advance as they fill quickly
Carry sufficient cash for all day trips — ATMs are only in São Tomé City and credit cards are not accepted outside top hotels
For Obô National Park treks, a mandatory licensed guide is not optional — unauthorised trail access is both dangerous and not permitted
