Laas Geel Cave Paintings
Laas Geel is a set of granite rock shelters holding some of the best-preserved Neolithic rock art in the Horn of Africa, showing cattle with elaborate long horns, herders and a few dogs and giraffes painted in red, white and orange pigment. The paintings were unknown outside the area until a French archaeological team documented them in 2002, and the site remains lightly visited, so you typically see the panels without other tourists around. It is a half-day trip: the interest is concentrated in a cluster of shelters you walk between with a guide, not a sprawling complex.

Naasa Hablood Twin Hills
Naasa Hablood is a pair of rounded granite hills on the edge of Hargeisa, a landmark visible from much of the city and a short outing rather than a full day trip on its own. The interest is the view over Hargeisa from the base or lower slopes and the hills' status as a recognizable city symbol, not any built attraction. It suits combining with other in-town stops rather than a dedicated half-day.

Sheikh Mountains and Highland Forests
Sheikh is a former British colonial hill station in the mountains between Berbera and Hargeisa, sitting high enough to be noticeably cooler and greener than either coastal Berbera or the Hargeisa plain. The draw is the drive itself through switchbacks and pine-dotted highland scenery, plus the town's colonial-era buildings, most notably the old Sheikh Secondary School, once a well-regarded boarding school. It works well as a stop on the Berbera-Hargeisa road rather than a separate round trip.

Gezira Beach and Mogadishu Coastal Strip
Gezira (Jazeera) Beach is a stretch of white-sand Indian Ocean coastline south of central Mogadishu, one of the city's main spots for swimming and for restaurants and cafes set up along the shore. The appeal is straightforward: clear water and open beach in a city where public leisure space is otherwise limited, with a run of small seafront eateries serving grilled fish. Security conditions in Mogadishu change, so any visit needs to be planned around current advice on the day, including transport and timing.
