Playa Benítez

Playa Benítez is a compact, sheltered cove on the southwestern coast of Ceuta, sitting roughly 2 kilometres from the city centre and flanked on both sides by natural rock outcrops and low cliffs that provide welcome natural shade in the late afternoon. The beach measures approximately 180 metres in length and features a mix of coarse golden sand and pebbles, with water that is notably clear and often ranked among the cleanest in Ceuta. The sheltered character of the cove keeps wave action gentle even when the Strait of Gibraltar beyond the headland is choppy, and the clarity of the water at both ends of the bay makes it a prime destination for snorkelling among the rocky margins. The lack of commercial facilities means the crowd at Playa Benítez is self-selecting: visitors here tend to be swimmers, snorkellers, local families, and those who specifically seek a quieter setting away from the organised beach facilities at Chorrillo or Ribera. No sun-lounger services, beach bars, food kiosks, or permanent toilets operate at the beach, making it essential for visitors to bring provisions including water, food, and sun protection. A small car park at the head of the access road accommodates approximately 20 vehicles and fills quickly on summer weekends. Taxis from the city centre cost around €5–7, and the beach can also be reached on a 25-minute coastal walk from Playa del Chorrillo along the shoreline road. The surrounding cliffs and scrubland are home to seabirds, adding a wildlife dimension to the visit. The panorama from the beach encompasses the rocky headlands of the Ceuta coastline and, on clear days, the Moroccan shore across the Strait of Gibraltar. Snorkelling equipment is not available for hire at the beach; visitors should bring their own gear or purchase from city-centre sports shops before setting out. Playa Benítez occupies a particularly attractive position among Ceuta's beaches for its combination of natural beauty, clear water, and genuine tranquillity.
