Extremadura has a continental Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The inland plains (Badajoz, Mérida) are among Spain's hottest places in summer, regularly exceeding 40°C. The northern valleys (Jerte, La Vera, Sierra de Gata) are cooler and greener. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing, hiking, and outdoor activities.
