Jiufen and Jinguashi Gold Villages

Yehliu Geopark and Keelung
Yehliu Geopark is a narrow cape of wind- and wave-eroded sandstone on the north coast, famous for mushroom-shaped rock formations that have been carved by centuries of erosion, most recognizably the Queen's Head. Keelung, the port city just beyond it, adds a working harbour and a well-known night market to round out the day. The pairing works because Yehliu itself only takes a couple of hours, leaving the rest of the day for Keelung's food and harbour atmosphere.

Wulai Aboriginal Hot Springs
Wulai is a mountain town built around a river gorge south of Taipei, home to a small Atayal Indigenous community and a cluster of hot spring establishments fed by a local geothermal source. Beyond the springs, the town has a waterfall, a narrow-gauge tourist trolley, and a hillside cable car, giving the day more shape than a soak alone would. It's a compact valley, so most of what there is to see is within easy walking distance of the old street.

Tamsui Old Street and Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, a short bus or boat ride further along the coast, adds a working harbour turned leisure pier with a well-known pedestrian suspension bridge. The main draw for most visitors is watching the sunset over the river mouth from the promenade or the bridge.
