Caroni Bird Sanctuary
Caroni Bird Sanctuary is a mangrove swamp on the west coast, reached by flat-bottomed boat from a landing near the Uriah Butler Highway, and it's where visitors go to see the Scarlet Ibis - Trinidad's national bird - return to roost at dusk. The boat tour moves slowly through mangrove channels, past caimans and a wide range of waterbirds, building toward the main event: hundreds of scarlet ibis flying in low over the swamp and settling into the trees like decoration. Gasparee Caves and Gasparee Island
Gasparee (Gaspar Grande) Island sits just off Chaguaramas on Trinidad's northwest peninsula, a short boat ride from the mainland, and its main draw is a system of limestone caves with an underground saltwater pool inside. Tobago day trip by ferry
Tobago is Trinidad's sister island, reached either by a sea crossing on the inter-island ferry or by a short domestic flight, and it has a noticeably different pace - smaller, quieter, and built around its beaches and reef rather than city life. Doing it as a single day trip is ambitious given the ferry crossing time, so this only works well if you either fly both ways or are prepared to spend most of the day in transit for a short window on the island. It suits travellers who specifically want a look at Store Bay or Pigeon Point rather than a full Tobago holiday.
