Aydın is a province and city in Turkey's Aegean region, nestled in the fertile Büyük Menderes (Meander) River valley. The city of Aydın — sometimes called the 'fig capital of the world' — sits amid orchards producing the globally prized Söke and Çakıllı dried figs, alongside olives and cotton. The province is an extraordinary concentration of ancient Greek and Roman cities: Aphrodisias (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Priene, Miletus, Didyma, Magnesia on the Meander, Alabanda, Nysa, and the ancient ruins of Tralleis within the modern city itself. The Aegean coast fringes the western edge of the province, with Kuşadası offering beach resort life and ferry access to Samos, and Didim housing the monumental Temple of Apollo at Didyma. Aydın is an Aegean province served by İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), approximately 100 km north of Aydın city. The nearest international gateway, ADB offers intercity bus connections to Aydın in around 90 minutes. Within the province, shared dolmuş minibuses are the backbone of local transport, linking Aydın city with Kuşadası, Söke, Didim, and Nazilli at very low cost. Aydın city has a TCDD train station on the historic Izmir–Denizli line, with stops at Sultanhisar, Nazilli, and Kuyucak useful for travellers heading east along the Büyük Menderes valley. A rental car is strongly recommended for independent visits to Aphrodisias, Priene, Miletus, and the province's scattered Aegean ruins, as public transport to these sites is limited or non-existent. Kuşadası, the province's main resort town, also offers a seasonal ferry to Samos (Greece) for those on a Greek island–Turkey itinerary.

Travel smarter, not harder.
Intercity buses from Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) to Aydın city bus station take about 90 minutes and cost ₺150–200 (~$4.50–6 USD) — far cheaper than a taxi and very comfortable.
Dolmuş minibuses are the fastest and cheapest way to travel between towns in the province; buy an Aydın Kart if staying more than a few days to save on fares.
Renting a car from ADB airport unlocks Aphrodisias, Priene, Miletus, and Didyma in a single day — these sites are impractical to reach by public transport.
The TCDD train from Aydın station runs west to Selçuk (Ephesus) and İzmir and east to Nazilli and beyond toward Denizli; it is scenic, cheap, and air-conditioned.
For the Kuşadası–Samos ferry, book at least a day ahead in peak summer (July–August); Meander Travel and local agencies at Kuşadası harbour handle tickets.
Always use the BiTaksi app or insist the meter is running in taxis, especially in Kuşadası where tourist-zone overcharging can occur.
The dolmuş from Aydın to Kuşadası takes about an hour and costs roughly ₺40 (~$1.20 USD) — much cheaper than a taxi for this route.
Aphrodisias (near Geyre village) has no public transport; the best options are a rental car, a day-hire taxi from Aydın or Kuşadası, or an organized day tour from Kuşadası.
For Priene and Miletus, dolmuş from Söke reach Güllübahçe (Priene) and Milet (Miletus) — take a dolmuş from Aydın to Söke first, then change.
Fuel up and carry water before driving rural routes in the Büyük Menderes valley, where petrol stations and services can be sparse away from main roads.
