Batman is a provincial capital in southeastern Turkey, situated along the Batman River near the ancient city of Hasankeyf and the vast Dicle (Tigris) River valley. Known for its oil industry heritage and proximity to extraordinary archaeological sites spanning 12,000 years of continuous human settlement, Batman offers travelers an authentic off-the-beaten-path experience of Mesopotamian history and Kurdish culture.

Batman has a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen BSh) with scorching summers and cool, occasionally wet winters. Summer (June–August) is extreme, with temperatures regularly reaching 42–45°C (108–113°F) — one of the hottest regions in Turkey. Winters (December–February) are mild by Turkish standards with temperatures of 0–10°C (32–50°F) and occasional frost. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons with temperatures of 15–28°C (59–82°F).
