Hakkâri is a remote, breathtakingly scenic province in southeastern Turkey, bordering Iraq and Iran. Rising to altitudes above 4,000 metres in the Cilo-Sat mountain range, it offers pristine alpine lakes, dramatic river gorges, ancient fortresses, and a rich Kurdish cultural heritage largely untouched by mass tourism.
Hakkâri is one of Turkey's most remote provinces. Air travel to Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport (YKO) is the fastest entry; alternatively fly to Van (VAN) and take a 4-hour bus. Within the province, dolmuş minibuses connect main towns and a private car or 4WD is essential for mountain sites. Note: YKO Airport was closed for maintenance March–June 2026 and reopened June 1, 2026.
