Hakkâri is a remote, breathtakingly scenic province in southeastern Turkey, bordering Iraq and Iran. Rising to altitudes above 4,000 metres in the Cilo-Sat mountain range, it offers pristine alpine lakes, dramatic river gorges, ancient fortresses, and a rich Kurdish cultural heritage largely untouched by mass tourism.
Hakkâri has a semi-arid continental mountain climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, dry summers. The provincial capital sits at ~1,700 m elevation, keeping temperatures noticeably cooler than Turkey's Mediterranean coast. The Cilo-Sat mountains receive heavy snowfall from November to April, closing many high-altitude roads and trails. Summers (June–September) are warm and sunny at city level, with pleasantly cool temperatures at altitude.
