Tekirdağ is a coastal province in Turkish Thrace, stretching along the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara. The city, historically known as Rodosto, is famous for its distinct köfte (spiced meatballs), wine production in the Şarköy district, and sunflower-dotted landscapes. Visitors enjoy a relaxed Marmara coastline far less crowded than İstanbul's beaches, backed by rolling vineyards, Thracian history, and a lively rakı culture.
Tekirdağ's main gateway is its otogar (bus station) on the eastern edge of the city centre, served by multiple bus companies running frequent routes to İstanbul, Edirne, and other Thracian cities. A seasonal IDO ferry connects İstanbul (Kabataş) to Tekirdağ. Within the city, dolmuş minibuses fan out to all districts, beaches, and neighbouring towns. Taxis are available and metered. The city centre is compact and walkable.
