The Dorchester sits on Park Lane in Mayfair, facing Hyde Park across a dual carriageway. Hyde Park Corner Underground station is a four-minute walk; Marble Arch is reachable in eight minutes on foot along the park's eastern perimeter. The hotel's position on the eastern edge of Hyde Park gives many rooms unobstructed views of open green space — rare for a central London hotel — and places it within walking distance of Park Lane's concentration of embassies, the Mayfair financial district, and Knightsbridge.

The property opened in 1931, purpose-built for the luxury hotel market on a site previously occupied by Dorchester House, a Palladian mansion. Architect William Curtis Green designed the building in a Regency-inspired classical style, and the interiors have been periodically refreshed while retaining their gilded and marble character. The Dorchester is a Dorchester Collection flagship and remains one of the few independently owned five-star properties in London, giving it a different operating character from the international chain hotels that surround it on Park Lane.

Accommodation ranges from Classic Rooms on upper floors to the triple-aspect Harlequin Suite and the Dorchester Suite, which spans the entire seventh floor. The Park View Suites face west over Hyde Park and are among the most requested categories in the hotel. Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester holds three Michelin stars, making it one of only a handful of three-star restaurants in London; the 64-seat dining room requires substantial advance reservations. The Grill by Tom Booton offers a more relaxed British dining experience in the former Grill Room space on the ground floor. The Bar is a noted cocktail venue with live jazz programming on selected evenings.

The Dorchester Spa occupies four floors and includes an indoor pool, hydrotherapy bath, and a full menu of treatments. Butler service is standard for all room categories. The concierge team maintains long-standing relationships with private equity and corporate clients and can arrange chauffeured access across London and to the Home Counties. The hotel is popular with Middle Eastern and American leisure guests as well as senior business travellers.

Highlights

  • Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester — a three-Michelin-star restaurant, one of only a handful in London at the highest Michelin level
  • Park View Suites and the Dorchester Suite with unobstructed west-facing views over Hyde Park, among the most coveted park-view rooms in London

Tips for visiting

  • Reserve Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester six to eight weeks in advance; the chef's table in the kitchen requires separate enquiry and typically books many months ahead
  • The Grill by Tom Booton is the hotel's more relaxed dining option and significantly easier to book than Ducasse; it accepts reservations around one month in advance
  • Upper floor Park View rooms receive direct evening light until dusk in summer; specifying a high floor when booking significantly improves the sightline over the park canopy

Accessibility

The Dorchester provides wheelchair-accessible rooms and step-free access from the Park Lane entrance, with lifts serving all guest floors and the spa; the concierge can arrange mobility equipment and accessible transport with advance notice.
