The Las Vegas Strip is a 4.2-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Nevada, lined with some of the largest and most elaborate hotel-casino resorts in the world. Each property on the Strip is a self-contained entertainment destination: The Venetian replicates Venetian canals and architecture; the Luxor is a 30-story black glass pyramid with a sky beam visible for miles; the Bellagio features a eight-acre artificial lake fronting a dancing fountain display that runs to synchronized music every 30 minutes; and New York-New York replicates the Manhattan skyline at reduced scale. Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, Wynn, and the Cosmopolitan are among the most celebrated resorts for dining, nightclubs, and headline entertainment. The Strip's pedestrian sidewalks are wide and connected by skywalks between major properties, making it possible to walk the entire length, though the distances between resorts are greater than they appear from a car. Free attractions open to all include the Bellagio fountains, the Mirage's volcano eruption show (evenings, on the hour), and the elaborate interior spectacles of the Forum Shops at Caesars. The High Roller Ferris wheel at the LINQ promenade rises 550 feet and offers 360-degree city and desert views in climate-controlled gondolas. Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, about 2 miles north, hosts the Viva Vision canopy — a 1,500-foot LED screen arched over a pedestrian zone — and a more affordable, vintage Vegas atmosphere. Daytime on the Strip is extremely hot in summer; most visitors move between air-conditioned casinos or explore in the morning and evening. Budget travelers can eat, watch free shows, and people-watch without gambling.
