The badlands of western ND can exceed 100°F (38°C) in July. Winters (December–February) are severe — average lows of -5°F to -15°F (-21°C to -26°C) with wind chills well below -30°F (-34°C). Spring (April–May) is windy with potential for late snowstorms. Fall (September–October) is often the most pleasant season — mild, clear skies, golden prairie colors.
