Getting Around Zimbabwe 2026

From airport to backstreets: the full transport picture for Zimbabwe, with current fares.

Zimbabwe offers extraordinary natural wonders including Victoria Falls, one of the world's largest waterfalls, and Hwange National Park with its massive elephant population. Experience ancient ruins at Great Zimbabwe, vibrant cities, and some of Africa's best safari experiences.

Public
No metro or tram system. Kombi minibuses (kombis) are the main public transport in all cities — cheap ($0.50-1/ride) but crowded, informal routes, and no fixed schedules. ZUPCO government buses also operate on set routes.
Taxi
Licensed taxis available from hotels and taxi ranks. Negotiate fare before departure or insist on meter. Hwindi and Vaya rideshare apps bring welcome transparency to Harare and Bulawayo.
Rental
Car rental available at Harare and Victoria Falls airports (Avis, Europcar, local operators). Standard vehicles $40-80/day; 4x4 $80-150/day. Drive on the LEFT. International permit required.
Walking
Victoria Falls town center is compact and walkable during daylight. Harare city center is walkable in daylight but avoid walking alone after dark. Most other destinations require transport.
