The Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop is a roughly 10 km circuit around the three iconic limestone peaks in the Sesto Dolomites, on the border of the Veneto region and South Tyrol in northern Italy, within a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The trail starts at Rifugio Auronzo (Misurina, 32041 Auronzo di Cadore), which stands at about 2,320 m. Access from Venice is by car in roughly three hours or by organised tour bus; the final section is a toll road up from Misurina, and the fee is listed at about 30 euros for the car park. Public transport does not reach the trailhead in the same way, so planning is needed. Elevation gain is about 600 m over the loop, and the walk typically takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours. The main path is wide and well-marked, and the surface is gravel, rock, and occasional scree, with no scrambling on the standard route, so the difficulty is moderate. Exposure is limited to open alpine terrain: there is almost no shade, and weather can change quickly at this altitude. Landmarks include the Rifugio Lavaredo, the small chapel, the Forcella Lavaredo pass with the first close view of the north faces, and the Rifugio Locatelli (Dreizinnenhütte) below the peaks, where many hikers stop for food and a rest. Return follows the valley past Malga Langalm. Mountain huts on the route sell drinks and meals, though prices are alpine, and water is not guaranteed elsewhere. Turn-around is possible at Forcella Lavaredo if weather turns. Snow can linger above 2,000 m outside summer, and the road may be closed in winter. Warm layers, rain protection, and sun cover are essential even in July. The loop is popular and the car park can fill early on summer days.
