Ehime Prefecture occupies the northwestern corner of Shikoku island, facing the Seto Inland Sea. Known for Matsuyama Castle, the oldest operating hot-spring bathhouse at Dogo Onsen, the pilgrimage temples of the Shikoku 88-temple circuit, and the nation's finest mandarin oranges, Ehime blends samurai history with coastal scenery and one of Japan's most genuine onsen cultures.
Matsuyama's nightlife is modest but enjoyable, centered on the Nibanchō and Gintengai entertainment districts near the city center. Bars, izakaya pub-restaurants, and karaoke venues dominate. There is one main club (Vega) operating on weekends. Dogo Onsen area has a relaxed post-bath bar scene — the pleasure of a ¥600 sake glass after a hot soak is quintessential Matsuyama. Ehime outside Matsuyama has very limited nightlife; Imabari and Uwajima have a few bars near their main streets.
Matsuyama nightlife is primarily izakaya-based — groups of colleagues sharing beer, yakitori skewers, and sashimi rather than clubbing. The city comes alive around 19:00–21:00 when izakaya fill, and bars stay busy until around midnight. Weekend club nights at Vega attract a younger crowd from 22:00.
