Cape Muroto
Cape Muroto is the wind-scoured southeastern tip of Kochi Prefecture, where uplifted seabed rock formations meet the open Pacific with no landmass between here and the equator. The cape is the centerpiece of the Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark, and its exposed strata record repeated tectonic uplift from centuries of earthquakes. It's a half-day of walking rocky coastal trails and visiting a lighthouse rather than a beach day.

Shimanto River
The Shimanto is often called Japan's last clean river because it has no major dams along its main course, and it winds through rural western Kochi past thatched hamlets and forested hills. The signature sights are its chinkabashi, low concrete 'submersible bridges' without railings that are designed to go underwater during floods rather than be swept away. A day here is spent on or beside the water - canoeing, cycling the riverside road, or simply crossing the low bridges - rather than sightseeing at a single site.

Ryugado Cave
Ryugado is a limestone cave in Tosa City formed over roughly 100 million years, with a developed show-cave route of roughly a kilometer through large chambers of stalactites and flowstone. Its most distinctive feature is a set of Yayoi-period earthenware jars that were left in the cave millennia ago and have since become partly fused into the flowing limestone, visible embedded in the rock along the route. It's a self-contained few hours underground rather than a full outdoor day.
