Kumamoto is well-connected by the Kyushu Shinkansen, making it a 33-minute ride from Fukuoka (Hakata) and 46 minutes from Kagoshima-Chuo. Within the city, a heritage tram network and extensive bus system cover all major sights. The Castle Loop Bus (100 JPY / ~$0.68) is the easiest option for central attractions.
