Getting Around Lithuania 2026

Getting around Lithuania: transport options, costs, and practical tips.

Lithuania is a Baltic gem offering medieval castles, baroque architecture, and pristine nature. From the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Vilnius to the iconic Trakai Island Castle, Lithuania blends rich history with modern vibrancy and natural beauty.

Public
Vilnius has an excellent bus and trolleybus network covering the whole city. Kaunas and Klaipėda have good coverage too. Tickets are cheap (€0.65-1.25) and purchasable by contactless card.
Taxi
Bolt and Uber apps work extremely well across all Lithuanian cities with fair metered pricing. Far cheaper than Western Europe and very reliable.
Rental
Car rental is excellent value (from €25/day) and highly recommended for exploring national parks, the Curonian Spit, and rural Lithuania not served by public transport.
Walking
Vilnius Old Town is very walkable and most key attractions are within 20-30 minutes walk. Cobblestones require good footwear.
