Hostel El Morro

Hostel El Morro occupies a building on Calle Topete in La Paz's Centro Histórico, approximately three blocks from the Malecón—the city's seafront promenade stretching along Bahía de La Paz. The hostel is within a 10-minute walk of the ferry terminal serving mainland Mexico (Mazatlán and Topolobampo routes), the central bus station, and the concentration of dive shops and tour operators lining the Malecón and the streets behind it.

Accommodation is available in mixed-gender and female-only dormitories as well as private rooms with en-suite or shared bathrooms. Dormitory beds include reading lamps, power sockets, and individual storage lockers. The communal kitchen is well-equipped with two refrigerators, a full stove, microwave, and basic cooking utensils, making self-catering viable. A coin-operated laundry operates on the ground floor.

The rooftop terrace—with hammocks, outdoor seating, and panoramic views across the city's rooftops toward the bay—functions as the social hub of the property. Staff members, most of whom speak English and Spanish, maintain relationships with reputable whale shark snorkeling operators (available November to March in La Paz Bay and nearby Bahía de La Ventana), sea lion colony snorkeling trips, and multi-day kayak expeditions to the islands of the Espíritu Santo Archipelago. Van transportation to Todos Santos, Los Cabos, and the Guerrero Negro whale lagoons can be arranged from the front desk.

Hostel El Morro suits backpackers, solo travelers, and budget-conscious adventurers using La Paz as a gateway to the Sea of Cortez. The city's excellent street food scene—tacos de marlin, aguachile, and fresh-fruit aguas frescas—is immediately accessible from the front door.
