Thamel
The undisputed heart of Kathmandu's tourist nightlife. The main streets of Thamel are lined with bars, rooftop restaurants, live music venues, and late-night cafes. The area is lively most nights of the week with a mix of backpackers, trekkers, expats, and increasingly local young Nepalis. Paknajol and Chhetrapati areas on the fringes of Thamel are slightly more local in character.
