Getting Around Qatar 2026

Getting around Qatar: transport options, costs, and practical tips.

Qatar is a dynamic Arabian Peninsula nation blending futuristic skyscrapers with traditional souqs and Islamic heritage. From the architectural masterpieces of Doha to the serene inland sea and pristine beaches, Qatar offers world-class museums, luxury resorts, and authentic cultural experiences in one of the world's most rapidly developing destinations.

Public
Doha Metro (3 lines opened 2019) and Mowasalat buses cover major areas of Doha efficiently. Clean, modern, air-conditioned. Limited coverage outside Doha city.
Taxi
Uber and Careem are reliable and widely used. Official Karwa taxis (turquoise) are metered but card-only payment. Very affordable and readily available.
Rental
Excellent road infrastructure makes car rental ideal for day trips outside Doha. Required for desert access to Khor Al Adaid and Al Zubarah. 4x4 necessary for off-road.
Walking
City center areas are walkable but Qatar's extreme summer heat (May-September) makes walking impractical. Corniche and Souq Waqif areas are pleasant on foot October-April.
