San Marino, the world's oldest republic and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is perched atop Mount Titano with medieval towers, cobblestone streets, and panoramic views of the Italian countryside. This microstate offers a unique blend of history, culture, and Italian charm within just 24 square miles.
San Marino has a temperate continental climate influenced by its elevated position at 600-756 meters on Monte Titano. Summers are warm to hot (22-28°C) with low humidity thanks to the mountain altitude, making it more comfortable than the coastal Adriatic resorts below. Winters are cold with occasional snow on the mountain, and spring and autumn are pleasantly mild with spectacular visibility to the Adriatic and Apennines.

The seasons
What to expect in each part of the year.
Spring
Months: Mar-May
Wildflowers bloom on Monte Titano's slopes and mild temperatures of 10-18°C make outdoor sightseeing pleasant. Clear skies offer the best visibility to the Adriatic coast and Croatian islands on horizon. Occasional rain but generally drying out through May.
Summer
Months: Jun-Aug
Peak tourist season with warm temperatures of 22-28°C and extended daylight. The elevated position keeps temperatures somewhat cooler than the coast. Medieval Days festival in late July is spectacular but very crowded. Late August sees shoulder season prices begin.
Fall
Months: Sep-Nov
September is arguably the best month with summer warmth (20-24°C), fewer visitors after school term starts, and the National Day celebrations on September 3 including the Palio delle Balestre crossbow tournament. Autumn foliage adds color to Monte Titano's wooded slopes through October.
Winter
Months: Dec-Feb
Cold winters with temperatures of 2-8°C and occasional snow that creates a magical atmosphere on the medieval towers and walls. The Christmas Market from late November fills Piazza della Libertà with festive atmosphere. January and February are very quiet with reduced opening hours at some attractions.
