Somalia, located on the Horn of Africa, offers stunning coastlines along the Indian Ocean, ancient cave paintings at Laas Geel, and vibrant markets in Mogadishu. Despite ongoing security challenges, the country boasts rich Somali culture, pristine beaches, and historical sites dating back millennia.
Somalia has a predominantly hot, arid to semi-arid climate shaped by the Indian Ocean monsoon system. The country experiences two monsoon seasons (Gu in April-June and Deyr in October-November) bringing rain and cooler temperatures, alternating with dry seasons. Coastal areas are moderated by sea breezes, while the interior can be extremely hot. Northern highlands (Somaliland) have more moderate temperatures year-round, with the highland town of Sheikh offering cool relief even in summer. Hargeisa sits at 1,334m elevation and is significantly cooler than coastal Mogadishu.
