Playa Fluvial del Júcar — Las Majadillas

Playa Fluvial del Júcar — Las Majadillas is a natural river beach set where the Júcar River curves through a limestone gorge approximately 30 km from Cuenca city in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. The bathing area occupies a wide outer bend in the river, sheltered by towering rock walls and mature holm oak woodland that provides natural shade throughout the day — a characteristic that sets it apart from most inland bathing spots in the region. The water is clear and cold, fed from higher mountain catchments, and ranges in colour from pale jade green to near-transparent in the shallows. The riverbed at Las Majadillas is composed of smooth rounded pebbles and flat rock shelves rather than sand. The current is slow in summer dry-weather conditions, and the shallows are gentle and stable, making the site appropriate for families with children. Water depth increases progressively toward the far bank. The designated swimming area extends roughly 80 metres along the river's outer bend, with no wave action — the surface is glassy when undisturbed. Amenities are limited but adequate for a day visit: a shaded picnic area under mature trees borders the riverside, and toilet facilities are available nearby. There is no lifeguard on duty and no food vendor on site; swimmers use the river entirely at their own risk. The gorge walls and dense riparian vegetation give the beach a distinctly green, enclosed character unlike a conventional coastal beach. Photographers are drawn to Las Majadillas for the river light filtering through canyon walls and the reflections across the water surface in early morning and late afternoon. Several short walking routes access viewpoints above the gorge through the surrounding Serranía de Cuenca landscape. A gravel car park is located at the head of the access path, which involves a short descent of around 50 steps to the river. No public transport serves the site; the nearest alternative is a taxi from Cuenca city at approximately €20 one-way.
