La Rioja is Spain's smallest mainland autonomous community and one of the world's great wine regions, producing the celebrated Rioja DOCa wines along the sun-drenched banks of the Ebro River. Beyond the vineyards, medieval monasteries, Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes, and rugged Sierra de la Demanda mountains make this a destination of remarkable depth.
La Rioja's capital Logroño sits on the A-12 motorway between Bilbao and Zaragoza, making it easily accessible by road. The nearest international airports are Bilbao (BIO, 90 km/56 mi) and Zaragoza (ZAZ, 140 km/87 mi), with Madrid Barajas (MAD) 330 km/205 mi away. Trains serve Logroño on the Zaragoza–Logroño–Miranda de Ebro line. For exploring vineyards and mountain villages, a rental car is strongly recommended — public transport within the region is limited outside Logroño city.

Rent a car from Logroño for at least 1–2 days to explore wine country — bodegas, Haro, Briones, and Laguardia are not well-served by public transport.
The Logroño bus station (Avenida de España s/n) handles all intercity routes; it is a 15-minute walk from the Old Town or a short taxi ride.
Fuel (gasolina / diesel) is sold at standard Spanish prices; stations are plentiful on the A-12 and N-232 corridors.
Parking in Logroño city centre can be found in the Gran Vía underground car park (€1.50/hour, ~$1.65) or free on the periphery of the Old Town.
