Bayburt is a small, authentic province in northeastern Turkey nestled in the Çoruh River valley, framed by the Eastern Pontic Mountains. Known for its imposing medieval castle, pristine highland plateaus (yaylas), wild river gorges, and some of Turkey's finest honey, Bayburt offers an unhurried window into traditional Anatolian life far from the tourist mainstream.
Bayburt has no conventional nightlife by Western standards. The city is conservative and Islamic, and alcohol is rarely consumed publicly. The evening social scene centres on çay bahçesi (tea gardens) along the Çoruh River, pastane (patisseries), and the nightly promenade on Cumhuriyet Caddesi. Summer yayla festival evenings feature traditional folk music (horon dance) and are the liveliest events in the province.
